도로표지 노선번호는 도로표지 정보디자인의 핵심 표기 요소이며, 정보량 축소를 구현시키는 요소이다. 국토교통부는 도로법에 의거하여 도로의 유형을 고속국도, 자동차전용도로, 국도, 지방도 등으로 구분하고 각각의 도로 유형의 노선번호 디자인을 부여하여, 도로표지에 표기되도록 안내하고 있다. 그러나, 도로명주소법의 시행으로 도로표지에는 도로명이 우선 표기요소로 강조되었고, 도로표지규칙에는 노선번호의 표기위치에 대한 원칙이 없어서 지자체별 도로표지의 노선번호의 표기양상이 다양하게 나타나고 있다. 아울러, 도로망의 발달과 국토의 도시화로 인하여 도로노선구간이 단절되거나 도로이용 경험과 불일치하여 노선번호의 개선이 필요하다. 본 연구는 도로안내체체에서 노선번호와 정보인지환경을 조사하여, 연구 결과로 도로표지 정보디자인의 원칙 확립, 노선번호디자인의 정보량 축소, 도로표지 유형별 표기위치 표준화, 그리고 노선번호체계의 개선방향을 제시하였다.    The road numbering system of road signs is a key marking element of road sign information design, and it is a way to reduce the amount of road sign information. Under the Road Law, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has a road sign system that divides the types of roads into National Highways, Motorways, National Roads, and Local Roads, and gives each road number design. However, with the implementation of the Road Name Address Act, the road name was emphasized as a priority notation factor on Road Signs, and the Rroad Sign Rules did not have the principle of the location of route numbers, indicating various patterns of route numbers for each local government. In addition, the fundamental Road Numbering System needs to be improved as the section of road routes is cut off or inconsistent with the experience of road use due to the development of the road network and urbanization of the national territory. This study investigated route number and information recognition environment in Road Information System and suggested establishment of principle of Road Sign Information Design, reduction of information quantity of route number design, standardization of notation location by type of Road Sign, and improvement of Road Numbering System.
